    —William H. Crosby, MD, of Boston, has reviewed the book, The Blood in Disease, by Charles A. Hall, MD (Arch Intern Med123:472-473 [April] 1969), and it is of great interest to me that he devotes about half of his review to a tart criticism of Dr. Hall's evaluation of treatment of Hodgkin's disease.It is apparent that Dr. Crosby has taken a great deal that is in the literature and interpreted it as indicating that Hodgkin's disease is now curable and that the results of treatment of stage I and II disease have been improved by extended field radiation therapy as described by Easson, Kaplan, Peters, and others.I think that Dr. Hall's rather sober remarks concerning Hodgkin's disease should be emphasized and that Dr. Crosby has no evidence to indicate that extended field radiation therapy has definitely prolonged the life of anyone with Hodgkin's
