N2  - There are several excellent textbooks about the liver, but a new one worthy of attention has just appeared. The author has aimed this book at clinicians and laboratory workers who wish to understand many of the advances in liver and bile metabolism. In approximately 400 pages he has succeeded in bringing together a body of information largely unavailable elsewhere.The book emphasizes molecular biology and techniques employed in its investigation that have evolved in the past ten years, to a far greater degree than any other text. As a result, the brief chapters on hepatic anatomy and formation of bile communicate this information more clearly to students than similar sections in existing books.Important long chapters on "Bilirubin Metabolism," "Jaundice," "Drug Metabolism," "Hormones in the Liver," "Experimental Hepatic Injury," and "Liver Tests" make up the bulk of the book.
