N2  - In 1958, the first edition of this book was published in the form of one third of a single volume text called Radioactive Isotopes in Clinical Practice by Quimby, Feitelberg, and Silver. This original text was the outgrowth of a comprehensive course in clinical uses of radioactive isotopes given by the authors. Quickly it became a standard reference in every radioisotope laboratory, and its almost universal acceptance in the training courses of that era was a tribute to the readability, clarity, and authority of its style.The section of clinical applications took 154 pages of the original single volume; it has grown to 502 pages in this separate volume. Then, as it is now, the major concern is devoted to the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid disorders, especially hyperthyroidism. This emphasis is proper, since radionuclides are still employed more for studies of thyroid function than for any other purpose.The
