N2  - In a series of patients with the nephrotic syndrome, we have undertaken an evaluation of renal biopsy with respect to (1) variability in interpretation among observers, and (2) correlation with clinical course. The data indicate a high degree of agreement among three histopathologists as to severity of the lesion, and a lack of agreement as to descriptive terminology. The histopathologic data appear to correlate with the observed clinical course more faithfully than other available clinical or laboratory variables.
