N2  - Essays in Microbiology is a Festschrift to honor Dr. Morris Scherago upon his retirement as professor and chairman of the Department of Microbiology of the University of Kentucky. The collection consists of nine papers covering broad areas of the field of modern microbiology, authored by prominent students and associates of Scherago. The editor, Albert Balows was himself one of these students. Of particular interest, is the contribution of Ralph H. Weaver which traces the development and history of microbiology at the University of Kentucky from its beginning in 1910 to the present. This description is informative and clearly demonstrates Scherago's role in introducing microbiology into the curriculum and building the department. The outstanding accomplishments of the contributors to this volume are eloquent testimony to Scherago's remarkable career.As with most Festschrifte, this volume will be of interest mainly to friends and associates of Sherago and those interested in the development
