Scientists from 14 countries summarized various aspects of the structure and function of bradykinin, kallidin, kallikrein, gastrin, eledoisin, physalaemin, substance P, and related substances. One of the scheduled speakers for this symposium was Sir John Gaddum whose untimely death a few months before this meeting was a severe loss to contemporary pharmacologists and physiologists. Professor von Euler described Sir John's contributions to pharmacology and more specifically, his work with Gaddum on the peptide which is now known as substance P.Many of the chapters are extremely short and do not include the broad background of information necessary for medical student, house officer, or practicing physician to gain much value from this book.
