This general subject is a major part of the book, but chapters are also included on subjects such as the pathologic anatomy of surgically correctable cardiac malformations, on the fundamentals of cardiac surgery, anesthesiology and cardiac surgery, the rationale of surgical conduct in closed and open heart procedures, and on the postoperative course in cardiac surgery. There are 23 contributors to this book, and many of them are distinguished physicians whose other writings are well known. This book probably was not intended as a major reference work or as a manual in technique.
