N2  - This small book by a group from the University of Oxford is essentially a primer on treatment, but it includes a chapter outlining Pickering's view of the nature of hypertension as well as a valuable section of critical comment on the assessment of therapy in this syndrome. Much of the book is concerned with surgical and drug programs for patients with hypertension in which the authors have drawn heavily from the work of Dr. A. W. D. Leishman. It is interesting that Dr. Pickering and his group include hydralazine among "Drugs Now Little Used," as did Smirk in his recent High Arterial Pressure. Since this compound is very popular in the United States, its use marks a point of major difference in therapy for hypertensives in this country and in the British Commonwealth. Most other measures and programs suggested and outlined are conventional ones.I heartily agree with the authors
