The handsome volume just issued embodies his latest and carefully considered views on the subject. No aspect of child psychiatry has been left untouched. The general background is developed, the relation of physical ills to mental reactions is discussed and finally the psychiatric disturbances in the stricter sense are taken up. Although the book is a large one, the subject is so great that one almost has a feeling of sketchiness here and there; some of the sections on therapy especially seem almost too brief. Dr. Kanner (and this cannot be said of all psychiatrists) writes vividly and intelligibly; his book no doubt remains the standard text on this subject.
