He speaks with authority, since he has been a surgeon for twenty-five years and, during this time, has been a pioneer in establishing the importance of integrating the bacteriologic laboratory with the surgical service.The book contains a review of the so-called surgical infections as they affect various organs and tissues of the body. In addition to covering Dr. Meleney's own experience, the book contains chapters written by some of his colleagues at the Presbyterian Hospital, including Drs. Lockwood, Harvey, Longacre and Sandusky.Correlated with the studies on surgical infections are descriptions of contributing etiologic factors and surgical therapy. The place of antibiotic therapy and the sulfonamide drugs in the treatment of infections has been considered in every phase of the subject. The last chapter deals with surgical infections in war wounds, and it is very interesting.The book
