The 10-year health promotion and disease prevention goals set forth by the US Department of Health and Human Services in Healthy People 2020 include a renewed emphasis on reducing and eliminating race/ethnic disparities in health outcomes.1 Although similar goals were issued in Healthy People 20002 and Healthy People 2010,3 these disparities remain a central and confounding public health problem.
