TY - JOUR T1 - Long-term analgesic use: Sometimes less is not more—reply AU - Alam A, Gomes T, Bell CM Y1 - 2012/08/13 N1 - 10.1001/archinternmed.2012.2897 JO - Archives of Internal Medicine SP - 1189 EP - 1190 VL - 172 IS - 15 N2 - Our cohort was specifically designed to minimize any confounding by excluding patients with prior pain medication use. Unfortunately, this was not incorporated in the cohort study2 cited by Drs Krishnamoorthy and Bhalla. Hence, we believe the pain requirements of our patient cohort can more likely be attributed to the surgery and postoperative prescriptions. Furthermore, we believe the prevalence of pain in the cited single-center comparator cohorts are likely far lower owing to low responder biases.
