The article published in the October 24th issue of the Archives on the impact of nontargeted human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) testing in emergency departments (EDs) raises important public health questions with regard to effective strategies for HIV screening. d’Almeida et al1 reported a study done in 29 EDs in the Paris metropolitan area, France, with a 0.14% rate of diagnosis after testing 12 754 people. d’Almeida et al1(p19) concluded,
