AB We appreciate the comments of Ahsan and applaud the development of what appears to be an extremely successful and stimulating morning report. Ahsan's comments underscore the fact that there are many different formats that can lead to a stimulating morning report. Our study high-lights the overall elements that were thought to be vital in the opinion of the residents at our institution. These included challenging, interactive, and focused discussions led by an attending physician who has a broad fund of knowledge and the ability to guide critical thinking. Whether interns and students attend or not and exactly how a case discussion is organized (ie, discussed at 1, 2, or 3 points) are matters that may reflect personal and institutional style and probably have a variety of successful outcomes.We acknowledge that our study did not objectively evaluate which "style serves best to improve their [residents'] knowledge."
