Swift venous access was obtained by femoral catheterization, and the rapid removal of 3,500 mL of ultrafiltrate was well tolerated. This technique may afford another mode of therapy in patients with refractory cardiogenic shock associated with severe volume overload.(Arch Intern Med 139:358-359, 1979)
