We found high or rising serum antibody titers to influenza virus A (three patients) and coxsackievirus B (one patient). Cardiac tamponade occurred in three patients, requiring pericardiectomy in two; each patient eventually recovered. Viral pericarditis may be an important cause of "uremic" pericarditis in chronically dialyzed patients.(Arch Intern Med 139:301-303, 1979)
