Georg Thieme Verlag, Postfach 732, Herwag 63 7000 Stuttgart 1, Germany, 1969.The German-English volume, vol 1, of this dictionary was published in 1951 and has been revised; the larger English-German volume, vol 2, was published in 1953 and is reprinted without changes. Unfortunately, both volumes require considerably more revision, preferrably by a physician who is thoroughly conversant with English. The vocabulary is extensive, but cursory inspection reveals not only a poor selection of terms for medical workers (to whom this work is primarily directed), but quite a few clumsy, unhelpful, and outright incorrect translations.The greatest area of deficiency is the eponyms. For instance, the German eponym for ankylosing spondylitis (Bechterew) is also given as the English eponym, while the actual English eponym (Strümpell-Marie) is absent; we find Krukenbergarm translated as "Krukenberg's
