The book is close to encyclopedic in its surprisingly broad coverage of both older routine tests and those more recently developed, but well established. The breadth necessarily limits the extent to which any one subject is considered, but the references are adequate to fill this need. Several background chapters on metabolism and more lengthy interpretations of newer procedures make it unnecessary to use the references frequently. The book is written with a clear, matter-of-fact, and practical touch which is quite consistent in spite of the number (14) of contributors. It is recommended as a carefully revised and up-to-date text of clinical pathology. It emphasizes the laboratory procedure, per se, rather than the experimental and pathophysiologic background of the multitude of laboratory tests in use in modern hospitals.
