AB From July 1966 until June 1967, there were an estimated 831.1 million visits to physicians (not counting rounds for hospitalized patients) by the civilian noninstitutionalized population of the United States. The average person made 4.3 trips to physicians during the year; an estimated 71.8% of all physician visits took place in a doctor's office. The cost of each visit (including charges for radiographic studies, laboratory tests, and other services) was $7.80. A home visit cost $7.90. A general practitioner was reported as the type of physician seen in about 64% of office visits and 85% of home visits. About 31.9% of the population reported having had no physician visits within the year; 4.3% had 13 or more visits per year.
