AB Reviewing a 1,258-page book is like embracing a very fat lady. One must make several attempts to get all the way round. In the case of Pediatric Therapy the effort is worthwhile for, though it is a bulky book, it is packed with information and in many places (notably the chapters authored by the editor) it is pleasingly readable.Harry Shirkey, who is father to the book, is noted as a pediatric pharmacologist; however, his opus deals not only with drugs but with therapy in all modalities. With the help of 89 blue-ribbon contributors, he also discusses psychiatric, surgical, radiational, nutritional, and recreational treatment, penetrating only far enough into these subjects to provide the children's physician with what he needs to know.An opening dissertation on pharmacologic fundamentals introduces the reader to a theme which carries throughout the work.
