The scope of the text belies the title; etiology, pathogenesis, and diagnosis of cholelithiasis precede the discussion of treatment. The chapter by Bolt on medical treatment is outstanding. The second section consists of treatment of menopausal disorders, edited by Cohen with five co-authors. This includes a comprehensive discussion of the controversial issue of estrogen therapy in the menopausal woman. The subject is discussed with candor from the vantage point of experience with realistic evaluation of current scientific data. This symposium represents a solid presentation of current thought in a somewhat confused area.
