It is the most comprehensive discussion of liver and biliary tract disease currently available. It embraces all aspects: etiology, pathology, clinical manifestations, and laboratory. Profuse black and white illustrations and strategically scattered color plates dramatize important items of pathological conditions, but the sparsity of electron photomicrographs (except for two plates delineating the normal human liver) is a minor disappointment. Radio scintograms (including a colored fold-out) illustrate areas where this technique is helpful.The strength of this book lies in the orderly organization of data, presented in comprehensible, literate prose. It is current (updated since 1966), and the well-selected reference citations following each section reveal the international breadth of the author's grasp of hepatology.
