The authors of the four articles in this volume do make references to work of others, but essentially they present results of their own experimentation and observation.Two papers deal with subjects which many internists find unfamiliar: "Respiratory Surfaces," by S. Engel (strangely, German books usually give only the first initial of a writer's first name), and a companion piece, "Tension of Pulmonary Surfaces," by A.
