AB I always look forward to the publication of the new edition of the Annual Review of Physiology. A learned scientist representing each subdivision of physiologic knowledge spends a considerable amount of time organizing most of the work which has been published over the past year. This is a tremendous task, and it gets worse each year. For example, John Severinghaus cites 666 articles in his review on respiration. N. C. Hightower cites 258 references in his review on the digestive system. This volume represents an extremely important undertaking. Internists who are interested in the physiology of disease should become acquainted with this volume. Those who buy this year's edition will also be treated to a special article by Dr. Wallace O. Fenn entitled, "Born 50 Years too Soon." Dr. Fenn gives a penetrating review of some of the changes that have taken place in physiology and in the world over
