Preston St., Baltimore 2, 1960.If you were to cut out the pages of Cecil and Loeb or Harrison and spread them on the ground, you would find that they would cover less than half a tennis court. Cecil has 164 contributors; Harrison has 98. Each author cultivates his own patch of land, and the teams produce excellent grass every four years. By comparison, McCombs' Internal Medicine has the page surface area of a squash court, whereas Bruce's Aids to Medicine covers a billiard table. I wonder if even a textbook of medicine which covers only a billiard table can still be written by one man. I fear that the days of Osler are gone forever, and they are mourned as much as the passing of the traveling circus,
