This symposium was held to stimulate interest in and to catalogue the available information on a field which concerns itself with the disposition of energy packets in biological material. Radiation biology will be aided by this additional information about the processes in which absorbed radiant energy is interchanged between its point of absorption and the site of biological action. This symposium consists of five sessions and a final discussion in which the biological problems concerned with the processes of absorption, stabilization, transfer, and utilization of energy are discussed. The ten papers in the first session were concerned with the presentation of biological problems. These range from a consideration of submolecular biology through effects of ionizing radiation of micromolecules to a discussion of energy transfer
