AB Although referred to as the third edition of a series by Rogers that was last published in 1929, this is a new book. Unlike some "recent advances" that deal with a few selected subjects in depth, Sir Neil Hamilton Fairley and his collaborators have chosen to consider a broad spectrum of tropical diseases with particular reference to the development of new knowledge in the period since World War II. The coverage includes entities of viral, rickettsial, protozoal, bacterial, spirochetal, and fungal etiology, as well as nutritional deficiency diseases, certain hereditary disorders, and a category of diseases of uncertain origin. Each subject is considered, in the words of the authors, in "as comprehensive a way as possible"; therapy receives special attention, and detailed references are cited.The result of this ambitious effort is a book that should be of interest to all internists and which well indicates the tremendous progress of
