AB This little booklet is the proceedings of a one-day study group sponsored by the Ciba Foundation in honor of George Thorn. The major topics are the action of "glucocorticoids" on carbohydrate and protein metabolism, and with medullary hormones upon adipose tissue. This includes adrenal influences in regulation of hepatic metabolism, including amino acid trapping by the liver. One-third of the book consists of stimulating comments on a wide variety of relevant topics by a score of outstanding discussants.The Foundation's purpose is to stimulate reseach by providing workers in distant centers with the latest work and thought on special topics. Thus, in addition to up-to-date summaries of literature, the book contains much material that was still unpublished at the time of the conference.
