AB Dr. Robert S. Pollack, aided by seven contributors, has directed his attention toward bringing together many loose ends in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. The book is one of lucid conciseness in a cancer field with a voluminous literature. Of the twelve various chapters, Chapter 6, on "Breast Cancer," and Chapter 10, on "Treatment of Metastatic Breast Cancer by Oophorectomy, Hormones and Chemotherapy," are masterfully done. Favorable comment must be directed to Chapters 9 and 11, also.It is meritorious that modified radical mastectomy is presented as a possibility for the poor-risk patient and also that the after-care of the mastectomy patient is emphasized.I had some difficulties in transferring the "Pathologic Classification of Breast Tumors," Chapter 2, to the portion dealing with benign breast conditions, and later, in Chapter 7, to the histological grading of malignant lesions.
