It was sponsored by the New York Academy of Sciences and the manufacturer of chlorothiazide.The papers and the discussions of them present an interesting group of observations about diuretic agents in general and about chlorothiazide in particular. The prime purpose of the conference appeared to be a timely and a wise attempt on the part of both sponsors to gather a large group of basic and clinical scientists to discuss an important new drug before its general release. This purpose was achieved. Many problems of the administration of chlorothiazide were dealt with in detail, and important areas needing study were outlined. A complete and accurate picture of the effect of chlorothiazide when used in edematous and hypertensive patients over a relatively short-term period was given. More important, practically all
