A second edition, a little bigger and better than the first, was necessary in 1943. Now the third edition has appeared; the book has grown in stature to comprise 563 pages and 776 illustrations.The basic model of the volume remains unchanged. It describes how important it is for physicians to examine the oral cavity properly, always bearing in mind that a variety of systemic disorders may make an early appearance in the mouth. It also describes, in great detail, oral diseases in general and their diagnosis and treatment in particular.Both earlier editions were reviewed favorably in The Journal of the American Medical Association (108:1209 [April 3] 1937; 124:469 [Feb. 12] 1944).
