AB The effective study of a chronic disease such as heart disease necessitates the accumulation of clinical data in many places over long periods of time. This cannot be accomplished satisfactorily unless a uniform nomenclature is adopted by the clinics encouraging such a study. The importance of precise labeling should be self-evident, and precision and uniformity in labeling depend on the accurate understanding of the labels.This little book defines with remarkable clarity the criteria for the diagnosis and classification of pathologic conditions of the heart. The diagnostic nomenclature is that adopted by the American Heart Association. It was originally prepared and adopted by the Committee on Cardiac Clinics of the New York Heart Association and was introduced, in 1923, into the various clinics of that organization which is now the Heart Committee of the New York Tuberculosis and Health Association.
