RT Journal A1 Crowther MA T1 Comparing 5-mg and 10-mg warfarin loading doses: Are the groups similar? JF Archives of Internal Medicine JO Archives of Internal Medicine YR 1999 FD July 26 VO 159 IS 14 SP 1625 OP 1625 DO UL http://dx.doi.org/ AB Drs Angelo and Nardino are concerned about possible imbalances in the baseline characteristics of the patients in our study.1 Although we agree that abnormal liver function test results and variations in nutritional status and food and medication intake can all affect the anticoagulant response to warfarin sodium,2 there is no reason to suspect that these factors influenced the results of our investigation. We reached this conclusion for 2 reasons. The first is the fact that the patients were randomly allocated to the 2 treatment groups. This should minimize any systematic differences between the 2 groups. The second is the fact that the results of this study are similar to those we achieved in our previous article.3
