Dr Whayne is also concerned that use of UFH therapy may not be effective in selected patients with HTG in association with lipoprotein phenotypes I and V and in patients with chronic renal failure. While successful treatment of severe HTG in patients with diabetic ketoacidosis cannot be predicted in all cases, serial measurements of serum TG concentration will be useful in deciding whether to continue or stop heparin administration.
