Ms O’Connor reminds us of another possible risk of radiation exposure—that of increased heart disease from the effect of ionizing radiation on the gonads in causing heritable mutations. I agree that the best way to optimize the risk to benefit ratio is to be sure that only indicated CT scans are performed using the optimal least-radiation protocol.
