RT Journal A1 Smith MD, Laws MA T1 THe geographic accessibility of retail clinics for underserved populations—invited commentary JF Archives of Internal Medicine JO Archives of Internal Medicine YR 2009 FD May 25 VO 169 IS 10 SP 951 OP 953 DO 10.1001/archinternmed.2009.111 UL http://dx.doi.org/10.1001/archinternmed.2009.111 AB The findings of Pollack and Armstrong showing that retail clinics have not, so far, been located in medically underserved areas are consistent with similar studies and are not surprising. Most retail clinic operators have not presented themselves as primary care providers, nor have they indicated a focus on serving underserved populations. As operators have gained traction and sought to open additional sites, many have begun to look to these clinics as a potential piece in the puzzle of increasing access to primary care services, raising the question of whether and how they might play a role.
