RT Journal A1 Andrade C, Fernandes P T1 ANtipsychotic drugs and myocardial infarction in patients with dementia JF Archives of Internal Medicine JO Archives of Internal Medicine YR 2012 FD October 8 VO 172 IS 18 SP 1428 OP 1429 DO 10.1001/archinternmed.2012.3761 UL http://dx.doi.org/10.1001/archinternmed.2012.3761 AB Protopathic bias was briefly considered as an explanation for the initial risk1; otherwise, the clinical significance of the lack of later risk was not addressed in either the main article1 or the accompanying commentary.2 This is surprising because the finding actually implies possible cardiovascular safety of antipsychotic medication in dementia. After all, if antipsychotic medication truly elevates cardiovascular risks, the effects should be uniform across time or cumulative, rather than only during the initial phase of treatment.
