We read with interest the article by Post et al1 on diagnosis and management of overweight and obesity in the US population. We conducted a similar study on the diagnosis and treatment of obesity in the Portuguese population using self-reported data from the National Health Survey conducted between February 2005 and January 2006 (participation rate, 76%).2 Dietary intake and physical activity (in a subsample) were also assessed. Data were provided by the Portuguese National Institute of Statistics (http://www.ine.pt).
