To the Editor. —I feel quite sure that Narvarte et al1 in their article that appeared in the January 1989 issue of the Archives meant to use the term benzine rather than the term benzene. Benzene is a single compound (C6H6), whereas benzine is a mixture of lowhexanes, boiling hydrocarbons. Also among its constituents are hexanes, not hexane, and, finally, it is a colorless mixture of hydrocarbons, not a "clear green liquid." The sample the authors obtained must have been either artificially colored or contaminated with a color.
