To the Editor.—We were distressed to read Dr Roth's comments regarding our research in the editor's correspondence section of the March 1989 issue of the Archives.¹ Dr Roth's letter reflects a flagrant disregard for accuracy in citation, facts, and data. Dr Roth may have heard an informal presentation of part of our paper "at a national databank meeting" in March 1988. But, if he meant to cite our abstract, ² he could not have obtained information on "wrist weakness" since no mention of the wrist occurs. A correct citation is to our full-length publication that was available to Dr Roth in September 1988, and, which, we hope, that he had read before writing about our research.³ The purposes of our research study were (1) to assess functional ability in patients with fibromyalgia using a standardized method of assessment, (2) to obtain information regarding their life-time work history,
