ABSTRACT

In Reply.  —Dr Hamilton suggests that physicians might be better "humanized" by alterations in their residency training rather than in their medical school curriculum. This is a cogent point and one that will we also make in a second editorial which will soon appear in the Archives. It seems to us that changes need to be made at all levels of medical education: undergraduate premedical, medical, residency, and postresidency. The medical world has been revolutionized by the technologic advances of the last 20 years. Medical education, however, has hardly changed at all during that period of time. Alterations need to be made in all phases of medical education. Dr Hamilton's suggestions are reasonable with regard to changes in medical residency training. However, such changes should not be limited to medical residency alone. As we will suggest in an upcoming editorial, we all need to take a long hard look at
