Just one year ago, the editorial offices of the Archives moved from Park Ridge, Ill, to Worcester, Mass. Dr Al Soffer completed a ten-year term as a distinguished editor, and I was honored to be asked to serve as his successor.
The transition went well, thanks to the guidance of Dr Soffer and his staff and Dr George Lundberg and Gabriela Radulescu at the American Medical Association (AMA) offices. To the best of our knowledge, no manuscripts were lost in the move across the country, although there were some tense moments until all the boxes were opened!
The first step in the transition was to assemble an editorial staff. I was very fortunate in recruiting Dr Rob Goldberg, a clinical epidemiologist, as Deputy Editor and Dr Peter Levine, a hematologist, and Dr Neil Blacklow, an infectious disease specialist, as Associate Editors. The key appointment was our editorial assistant, Melissa Derby.
