This is the 1983 edition of this series. The purpose of the series is to provide reviews that stress practical, clinical diagnoses and therapeutics for all physicians—at all levels of training—who come in contact with cardiac patients.
This volume complements the two previous ones by covering a host of subjects not dealt with in the 1979 or 1981 editions. Some of these subjects seem more appealing to general physicians than others, eg, the chapter on coronary angioplasty by the three leaders in this country (Myler, Stertzen, and Gruentzig), Sheffield's reassessment of exercise stress exercising, Shah's review of hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, and a discussion of recent advances in the diagnosis and treatment of peripheral arteriole and venous disorders. There are also four chapters on hypertension ranging from the treatment of children to treatment of the elderly that general physicians should find interesting.
