The reports included in this symposium were presented at the 21st annual meeting of Markle Scholars, held Sept 16 through 18, 1973, in San Diego, Calif. The meeting, sponsored and supported by the John and Mary Markle Foundation, was titled "Reform for Health Care: Searching for Alternatives." At this meeting, Representative Paul Rogers of Florida, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Public Health and Environment, House of Representatives, received the John M. Russell award for his outstanding contributions to social legislation influencing medical care and medical education.
In addition to the viewpoints represented by the authors of the articles in this symposium, two speakers participated in the meeting but did not submit reports. They are Thomas Tierney, Director, Bureau of Health Insurance, Social Security Administration, and Thomas G. Moore, Jr., Executive Director, California Council for Health Plan Alternatives.
