This little paperback is the fourth in a series of postgraduate courses in gastroenterology written in German by a panel of 14 contributors from four European countries and Japan.
The purpose of this symposium is to bring the practicing internist, gastroenterologist, and family physician up-to-date on the newer aspects of gastritis and its relation to other gastrointestinal tract diseases.
In general, this purpose is well served, particularly in the chapters on histopathology, erosive, and hemorrhagic gastritis and the two articles on the relation between gastritis and carcinoma. Some articles go into lengthy discussions about historical developments or describe in great detail gastric secretory tests, which are not pertinent to the topic.
Like any book with many contributors, this symposium lacks a uniform approach to the subject. More uniform reports with summaries at either the beginning or end of each chapter would have been desirable and added to the clarity of
