The author presents a wide range of information in this book, much of it perhaps simplistic, if not idealistic, to those with health care or hospital experience. This is not surprising because the book developed from "a series of lectures and presentations to computer systems and sales personnel designed to prepare them for marketing and analysis in the hospital industry." Consequently, three fourths of the book is devoted to an overview of the hospital from a systems analysis point of view, rather than from the typical functional organizational point of view. The hospital is reviewed in terms of information input, processing, and outflow, rather than in terms of functional departments. This information processing is subdivided into six major systems: service, building, supply, therapy, management, and communications. The review presented for each system and the interrelations between the systems are somewhat shallow and lack detail.
