Relationship of Serum Lipid Concentrations to Alcohol Consumption

Frequency of alcohol ingestion was significantly and independently related to concentrations of serum triglyceride (P<1%) and cholesterol (P<5%) among the 202 apparently healthy men from 30 through 69 years of age in a random sample of participants in the Tecumseh epidemiological study. All men were studied under standard fasting conditions. Age, adiposity, glucose tolerance, serum insulin response, dietary habits, and lipid concentrations were accounted for in the analysis.
