Leprosy in Vietnam Veterans

Only 76 cases of leprosy due to active duty in endemic areas have been reported from the Spanish-American War through 1968. No such cases have been reported from the Vietnam conflict. A Vietnam veteran contracted tuberculoid leprosy while on active duty in that country. American physicians must be alert to other cases of leprosy that may develop in veterans in the future.
