ABSTRACT

This is volume 26 of Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology, presenting the proceedings of the "Fourth International Symposium on Drugs Affecting Lipid Metabolism." It is divided into sections. The first of these (70 pp) deals with protein moieties of the lipoproteins and the synthesis and fate of plasma lipoproteins. This is followed by 20 pages on the metabolism of adipose tissue and the role of hormones and of cyclic 3′5′-AMP. Twelve pages are devoted to biochemical changes in the arterial wall during the genesis and regression of atheromas. The topic selected for the title (newer aspects of drugs that raise or lower plasma lipid values) is covered in 84 pages. Articles report the effects of drugs on free fatty acids, triglycerides, cholesterol (one page; how are the mighty fallen!), and bile acids.
