Terse is the word for this book, so much so that the novice may find it difficult to assimilate. He will be carried along too fast for comfortable digestion. On the other hand, it is not sufficiently comprehensive for use as a standard reference work. I think that this book is best regarded as a quick and reliable refresher.
It is current, well indexed, and cleanly printed. There are adequate numbers of clear figures, tables, and charts. References, however, are few; they have been selected according to the individual tastes of the 26 authors, nearly all of whom are from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. Indeed, the book had its birth in a postgraduate course given at Rochester. It does suffer the mildly distracting and almost unavoidable changes of style and emphasis of every multiauthored book.
